to Have Powerful Prayers That Accomplish Much
Dear Christian,
Imagine that you get the news that a loved one has

And it happens that way!!
What am I talking about?
I am talking about developing the ability you already
have. The ability to pray better, to
grow in faith, to be a better friend of God then you are now.

Did you know there is a world of difference between
praying at or to God compared to having a dialogue with God?
Obviously the main way that we Christians learn about God is through
bible reading. The application of
what we read in His Word is found in how we pray and live our lives.
It is in prayer that God speaks to us and helps to transform us more into
His image.
Why can’t I pray without help from anyone?
Of course you can.
You are now. The only reasons
you are still reading this is because you are curious and are not satisfied with
your prayer life. Now you say to
yourself; uggh! Sounds like
exercise.
Well...it is. The
whole Christian life is exercise. We
have to daily make decisions to follow Christ.
Or to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
To admit that we need help and then to humbly seek God’s help.
Help in whatever area of our life that God is working on at the time.
Initially it is hard to decide to do good and then do it.
Yet in time that same choice becomes reflexive to us.
Like riding a bike.
That is because God has trained us in holiness.
God has intended that we constantly grow in Him until the day we die.
This growth plan encompasses prayer too.
Are you proud of not hearing God’s voice?
I know I wasn’t.
Since everyone I knew didn’t hear God’s voice, I assumed this was
normal. But I couldn’t get rid of
the yearning for God that was eating me up inside.
I was bone dry in my spirit. Surely
there was more to this Christian life than this death valley existence!
If only God would talk to me when I prayed to Him.
Then I would have life.
I would have strength, happiness, and purpose.
I remember this time very well...just as if it were
yesterday. My mother and I regularly
attended a local church. Oddly
enough at about that same time frame my mother also hit a dry period in her walk
with the Lord.
During this desert like spiritual phase in my life, I
recall making one commitment and two requests to God.
The commitment was to remain faithful to Him all my life no matter what
happened.
The first request was for God to lead me out of this
dry life and into a rich, abundant life with Him.
The second request was for Him to enable me to hear
Him speaking to me.
Not long afterwards God graciously delivered my mom
and I out of that spiritual wasteland. Over
time I grew closer to God. Without
my really being aware of it, He began to speak to me.
Initially it was a general leading, almost like intuition.
Then came...
The day God spoke to me!!!
Sometime about 1980, I was listening to the radio
station KEZY AM 1190. I particularly
liked to listen to the music arrangement and voice of one Dee Jay.
Her call name was Strawberry Jan.
One day while listening to her, God distinctly spoke
to me. He spoke directly to my
spirit. He told me to immediately
begin praying for her. She was in
great danger. I was to pray for her
often.
That is what I did.
Though I never met her nor spoke to her at that time.
About 15 years later I met the real Strawberry Jan at
a church in
Orange County
,
California
. She was giving her testimony of
what God had done in her life during that same period of time I was praying for
her.
You see, in 1984, about four years after God told me
to pray for her, she was nearly killed in an automobile accident.
She was not supposed to live through the night, or walk, or talk again.
She beat all odds and expectations.

Laughter turned into answered prayer
Do you know that when I wrote my book on how to hear
God’s voice in prayer – most people were nice, complimentary and happy for

friends I was going to lead a four session class for a group of staid Lutherans,

Proof of what I say and teach is found in the story
of Jesus’ healing of Jairus’ daughter. That
is in Luke 8:41-56.
There we read that Jairus begged Jesus to come to his
house in order to lay hands on his dying daughter in order to heal her.
Jesus agreed to do that and so the two of them went towards Jairus’
home.
Then they get the bad news that Jairus’ daughter
had already died. Still, Jesus told
Jairus to “Fear not; believe only, and she shall be made whole”.
Because of Jairus’ choice to believe and listen to Jesus, who is God,
his daughter was raised from the dead and healed.
